| What is Digital X-Ray?
Digital X-Ray is sophisticated new technology
that does not require the use of traditional
film or cassettes. Instead, X-rays are taken of
a body part and collected onto a special
detector built into the table. The detector then
analyzes the data and transfers it immediately
to our computer screen for visualization.
What are the advantages of Digital X-Ray?
Digital X-ray allows for immediate
visualization of the images which in turn
results in quicker test times. No more waiting
around for the films to be processed.
Furthermore, the enhanced images can be
manipulated so that the best diagnosis can be
achieved by the Radiologist. The most important
advantage of Digital X-Ray over conventional
X-Ray is the decreased amount of Radiation given
to the patient in order to produce the images.
The need for repeat examinations is decreased
dramatically.
Is there any risk to having Digital X-Rays?
X-rays are a type of invisible
electromagnetic radiation. Although the risks of
any type of diagnostic X-ray are small, our aim
is to reduce this even further by the use of our
new technology involving digital technology. We
use a fraction of the radiation needed in years
past and the risk is minimal.
If you are a female and you are pregnant or
think you may be pregnant, please inform your
doctor or the technologist. Your doctor will
need to be consulted to see if other alternative
options have been explored first.
What are the expectations for having a
Digital X-Ray?
The patient will first be asked to remove any
metal that may interfere with the body being
examined. The experienced technologist will then
position the patient according to the body part
being imaged and will instruct him/her to hold
still. It is a painless and very fast exam.
Results can be readily available.
Is there any preparation for a Digital X-Ray?
There is no preparation needed. |
